Plastic blasting for:
Plastic blasting, also known as plastic media blasting, is a process in which a granular thermoset plastic is used to strip paint from surfaces without harming the underlying material. Unlike sandblasting, plastic blasting does not cause metal fatigue, and, unlike chemical stripping, it does not leave behind hazardous chemical residues that are hard to clean up, and can seep through expensive paint jobs. In fact, the media used in plastic blasting is recyclable, and therefore very environmentally friendly.
Plastic blasting is particularly well suited to stripping paint from boats, since it can remove anti-fouling paint and leave the gelcoat unharmed, while breaking open most of the voids directly behind the gelcoat. By contrast, a chemical stripper would likely be absorbed into any microscopic gelcoat flaws, which would promote the development of blisters. Plastic blasting is also great for cars, because it does not require disassembly of the vehicle.
